RAF Air Station Gibraltar (North Front)
Country & City: Gibraltar/UK.
Date of visit: 2004/09/04
Summary: RAF Gibraltar put on an open day to commemorate the 64th anniversary
of the Battle of Britain. Aerial displays by Hawks, Jaguars, Tucano,
C-130 etc and not least Tornados from 111 squadron RAF Leuchars in Scotland
which had been using Gib for training due to bad weather at home.
Demonstrations were also made by rescue services, military police and
the RAF Bomb Disposal Unit.
Everything went on high alert as reports of a bomb in the civilian
arrival hall on the other side of the runway came in. Then everything
was shut down for at least an hour.
Rating: Due to it's location with the high rock of Gibraltar as backdrop and restricted
Spanish airspace on the other side, Gib airfield make for some dramatic views
so much recommended for future air shows.
