Swedish Armed Forces Airshow 2010
Country & City: Sweden, Malmslätt
Date of visit: 2010/06/13
Summary: Celebrating the 100th anniversary of flying in Sweden, expectations were high on this event. To keep it short, you could not possibly leave disappointed after a day like this! So many high-lights, J35 Draken back in the sky, C-17 Globemaster III, all the historic jets, J29 Tunnan, J34 Hawker Hunter, J32 Lansen & J28 Vampire (DH). For the first time in 55 years a swedish Spitfire (MK XVI & MK XVIII) duo took to the skies over the airfield, courtesy of Biltema Co. Once again Mikael Carlsson wowed the crowd, this time in his Tummelisa & Blériot XI replicas. Among many other planes JAS 39 Gripen made several appearances, both solo & group. Gripen also made two ground attack runs supporting troops & helicopters in a battle scenario on the runway. Very impressive to watch! Formation flying were represented by Breitling Jet Team in new livery & nine RSWaF SAAB SK 60 trainers. Another treat was helicopters, from old Boeing Vertol to the latest in the inventory, NH 90. A real crowdpleaser.
Rating: Endless fields to park in, even though cars were queued up back to the motorway the staff had everything running. Even the weather was on our side, rain in the early morning & after the show with sun in between. Only thing missing in the sky was SK 37 E Viggen which cancelled due to mechanical reasons. Still there were several static Viggens on display to look closer at & get impressed by.
