Country & City: Germany, Laboe
Date of visit: 2007/07/14
Summary: U-995 is something as unique as a Type VIIC/41 submarine. Being the only surviving example of this type is reason enough to make a visit. The museum is located in Laboe close to the City of Kiel on the north coast. The submarine lies right on the beach and is in perfect condition both interior & exterior, a real treat to see. Seeing service in the Norweigan Navy after the war she was later sold to Germany for one (1) german mark and in 1971 became a museum ship at Laboe Marine Memorial.
Rating: Just being able to see one of Nazi Germanys "grey wolves" makes it worth the trip. To see that it is in pristine condition makes it even better. Be sure to visit the Marine Ehrenmal across the street and climb the 72 mtr memorial tower. From there you have a nice view of U-995 and the waterway to Kiel.
