Country & City: Sweden, Stockholm Archipelago.
Date of visit: 2009/08/02
Summary: The island of Vaxholm has been fortified since 1548 to different extent. In it's current state the fort was completed in 1863, then it soon became obvious that it had played out it's role due to artillery devolopment. Today, it's just a five minute boatride away from the town of Vaxholm, some 30 min north of Stockholm. Boat transfer is on a 30 min interval. At the fort you will find an exhibition of artillery pieces on the surrounding embankment, a nice view from top of the tower and the Coastal Artillery Museum under ground. The latter will be dealt with in a separate folder.
Rating: Very nice half day visit with Rindö Reduobt & Oscar Fredriksborg fortress close by to make it a full day trip.
