Country & City: Germany, Berlin
Date of visit: 2008/08/08
Summary: Built between 1559-94 on an island where the rivers Havel & Spree meet, the citadel was intended to protect the town of Spandau, now part of Berlin. Almost every building on site houses displays of some kind, all open to the public. Extra attention should be given to the uniform exhibition next to the tower & the armoury across the courtyard. Make time to climb the tower, the view is well worth it.
Rating: Altough a bit older than military installations & fortifications usually visited, it proved very interesting. Clearly worth visiting when in Berlin.
